Booktubeathon TBR & Haul

Hey my lovelies, welcome to this weeks Monday (which is slightly delayed, sorry guys) post, and there has been a little bit of a change in plan, my original planned post is being swapped over to the 31st, and this weeks post is now my booktubeathon TBR & (mini) Haul. The booktubeathon is an annual readathon, that was created by Ariel Bissett on Youtube, with the idea that as well as celebrating the booktube community, everyone bands together to read as many books that they can in the week, whilst trying to complete the 7 challenges. This year it runs from today (July 24th) to Sunday (July 30th). All of the books included in today's post, were bought for the purpose of reading in this readathon, so lets get down to it...

Thankfully when buying for this, I had the good sense to only pick relatively short books, so I won't be overpowering myself by trying to read 7 500+ page books in 6 days.

Challenge #1 ~ Read a book with a person on the cover

Now this one wasn't a very difficult choice to make and that's because it is Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, I first read this book around four years ago, and I remember really enjoying it, however with the series recently coming out on Netflix, I decided before watching it I would reread the book. If you don't know what Thirteen Reasons Why is about Clay who receives a set of tapes, only they're from his classmate Hannah, who committed suicide two weeks earlier, and claims to explain the thirteen reasons why she committed suicide, the only thing is Clay is one of them.

Challenge #2 ~ Read a hyped book

This next book I've had on my TBR for quite some time now, and from the reading of various others TBRs it is clearly a priority to get this one read, especially after the film came out last year, so A Monster Calls is joining my list.  And for this one I am pretty much going into this blind, only knowing that it is about a young boy and a monster (who my mum thought was Groot, when she saw the trailer on TV). But can you deny that this is a super hyped book? Patrick Ness has been so popular with both bloggers and booktubers a like in the recent years.

Challenge #3 ~ Finish a book in one day

And for this challenge (although one of my other picks, will probably cover this one) I have chosen the official Booktubeathon read! Which is of cause Juniper Lemon's Happiness Index by Julie Israel, and all I know about this one is that it deals with someone coping with the grief of losing their sister, and how they deal with allowing themselves to get over the loss.

Challenge #4 ~ Read about a character that is very different from you

For this one I wasn't really sure what to choose, as it was such an open ended challenge, so in the end I simply decided to let it go and see what happens, whilst the readathons on.

Challenge #5 ~ Finish a book completely outside

Now bar challenge #7 this is one I feel I'm most likely to fail at, as you never really know what is going to happen with British weather, but in the spirit of it being summer, I have chosen to read Lying about Last Summer by Sue Wallman. Similar to Juniper Lemons Happiness Index, this deals with the trauma from losing a sibling, however with a mystery/thriller edge, as Skye starts receiving texts from someone claiming to be her dead sister. Pretty Little Liars much?

Challenge #6 ~ Read a book you got because of the cover

For this challenge, I picked a book my mum got me in the last two weeks, which I adore because of the cover and it is The Diabolic by S.J. Kincaid, as well as it being the only science fiction book on my list, it is also the only hardcover I plan to read. But honestly how cool is that cover? A butterfly turning into knives, what could be better? This is another one I'm going into blind.

Challenge #7 ~ Read 7 books

And for the final challenge I have chosen the booktubers collaboration Because you love to hate me, I chose this one, because what is better than finishing of a booktubeathon with a book inspired by booktubers writing prompts?

I know I shouldn't but when buying for this haul, I couldn't help myself. So I bought a swapping books, meaning that if I change my mind on what to read I could try this instead. So we have another book by Sue Wallman, See how they lie, which is another ya thriller.

Thank you for reading my lovelies, I hope you enjoyed it, and if you're taking part in the Booktubeathon let me know what your reading below in the comments!

2017 Anticipated Releases (Part 2)

Hey my lovelies, welcome to my second most anticipated releases of the year. If you haven't already checked out my part 1, you can do so here. But can you believe that we are already half way through the year? I honestly can't, especially when I look at all the books on my tbr pile, which i still haven't had a chance to get round to yet. Never the less here are all of the books being released from June onwards that I shall be picking up anyway. These are in the order for the expected publication date.

The first book on my list may be slightly cheating (it's release date was May 30th), but I don't care and it is Royal Bastards by Andrew Shvarts. This is the first book in a brand new trilogy and follows Tilla, the bastard daughter of a Lord, who quickly cast her aside once his legitamite children were born. And her adventure, as she bands together with other bastards when people begin hunting them due to others treachery. If this doesn't sound like my cup of tea, I honestly don't know what does. Royal Bastards was published on May 30th by Disney-Hyperion.

The second book on my list is Once and for All by Sarah Dessen, this is the first Sarah Dessen book I've thought about buying, as so many people seem to love them, so I really want in on that action, so why not go out and buy the next one to be released? Plus I'm a big fan of reading romances in the warm, so why not read it this summer? All I know of Once and for All is that it follows Louna, who is overly cynical about romance, and it is up to Ambrose a serial dater to change her mind. Once and for All was published on June 6th by Viking Books for Young Readers.

The third book on my list is Because You Love to Hate Me: 13 Tales of Villainy by a large number of authors, which would take too long to type them all out, but some of the booktubers who I watched that are involved are: Benjaminoftomes, abookutopia, JessetheReader, readbyzoe, PeruseProject and my personal favourite polandbananasBOOKS.  If you haven't heard of this book, it's an anthology where 13 booktubers and 13 best selling authors have teamed up in order to rewrite fairy tales from the villains point of view. I am so excited to read this, and am hoping to do a mini review on each of the individual stories.

The next one I shall definitely be picking up is Ringer by Lauren Oliver, this is the second book in the Replica series, which I read back in October, when it first came out. I'm a big fan of Lauren Oliver, and really enjoyed the first one giving it 4 and a half stars. I'm really excited to explore more of this world, and to get my hands on the hardcover (I really embraced the format of Replica). From what I know of Ringer, it continues to follow Lyra and Gemma, and the way that they are adjusting to the information we found out at the end of book 1, and how this affects them. It also really makes me sad knowing that Orphan Black is finishing this year, and using this as a distraction. Ringer is expected to be released October 3rd by Hodder & Stoughton.

The fifth book on my anticipated releases is Renegades by Marissa Meyer, this is the first book in a brand new series (you know because I need to add more books to my tbr) and even though I have yet to read any Marissa Meyer books, which are all sitting pretty on my bookshelf, I clearly need this one too. After all its got people with powers in a crumbled society, so at the moment I'm kind of getting a mix of The Young Elites by Marie Lu (although probably not as dark) and Control by Lydia Kang. So if its anything like these two books, I'll be happy. Renegades is expected to be released on November 7th by Feiwel & Friends.

Other notable releases include Tower of Dawn by Sarah J Maas and Tower of Dawn by Kendare Blake.

Thank you for reading my lovelies, and I hope you enjoyed hearing about my most anticipated releases part 2, what books are you dying to get your hands on? Let me know in the comment section below.

The Most Intimidating books on my shelves!

Hey my lovelies, welcome to this weeks monday post and it's about the books I find the most intimidating books on my shelves!

The first book on my list is A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, the reason I find the first two books in this series so intimidating is due to the various reviews of the novel. As some people appear to love the first book in the series and then go on to either slate the second book or talk about how some characters were incredibly OOC. And the idea of reading a book like this is why it is currently being just one of my bookshelf warmers rather than being high on my TBR pile.

The next book on my list is a series and that is A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin, I am a huge fan of the Game of Thrones tv show, and due to this purchased the boxset. However, now that the tv show has overtaken the books, it's really not setting a desire off inside of me to read the series, especially not when you take into account the size of each of the novels and that we have no idea when the next novel is to come out (It's expected for this year, but who really knows?). On the other hand, I have not read a lot of books, where the tv show actually surpasses the book in standard, so that is another pro for reading it.

The third book on my list is another series and another Sarah J Maas book, and is Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, I own all of the released TOG books, and all of them are sitting pretty next to my ACOTAR books. I read the first book approximately 2 years ago, and enjoyed it, however none of it really impressed me much, which is why even though I own the rest of the series, I never felt the inclination to pick the next book up. However, after going into a Waterstones to purchase Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard, the woman behind the counter, recommending this series to me, and said it only got better after the second book. But the fact there is already six books released and one(+ a novella) more to come, does not inspire the greatest of confidence within me.

The fourth book on my list is Cinder by Marissa Meyer, this is like some of the others due to the sheer size of the series, and I know once I commit to the first book, I will have to read the other four books in the series. And as at the moment I am finding it quite difficult to read one book, let alone five or six. And I know if I don't finish the series, it really will grate on me like it does with the various other unfinished series on my shelves.

The fifth book (series) on my list is another one that I've read the first before, and is the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling. The reason this book intimidates me so much is due to my love of the films. The Harry Potter films are some of my favourite films of all time, and I have been told by various people that the books made them dislike the films, due to the inconsistency's and because of the cutting of various story lines. And after being so disappointed with the Divergent films, I really don't want this to happen to my beloved Harry Potter films. Although despite this I will be still getting one of the new Slytherin editions of books as soon as the first comes out in June (I believe?), because they are stunning, even if green isn't my colour.

The sixth and final book on my list is The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, this is another book that lots of people claim to love, and then a lot of people hate depending on your writing style preference. I have never read a Maggie Stiefvater book as of yet, and already own the Shiver series, but I am slightly nervous to read this, as I do really want to enjoy these books, and despite what this list has to say about me I do tend to read more contemporary's than fantasy, even if I do own more fantasy. Has anyone else ever noticed that fantasy books tend to have prettier book covers? I am a sucker for a good cover, I have to admit.

That is it for this weeks monday post my lovelies, I hope you enjoyed it, and don't hesitate to let me know what books you find intimidating or even if you think I should change my mind about some of the books on my list.

2017 Anticipated Releases (Part 1)

Hey my lovelies, welcome to my most anticipated reads of 2017, these are all of the books I can't wait to be released in the first part of 2017!

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth

Carve the Mark is one of my anticipated releases, as I remember really enjoying reading the Divergent series, however I have various friends who reread the series recently and claim they did not enjoy it. All I know so far is that its a space opera following two people, in a world where everyone has a powers, with theirs being ones that put themselves at risk to others. Sounds interesting, right?

Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth is expected to be published on January 17th by Katherine Tegen Books.

Kings Cage by Victoria Aveyard

What Victoria Aveyard fan is not hanging on the edge of their seat waiting for this to be released? I know I am, since I picked up Red Queen almost two years ago now. Kings Cage is the second sequel to the best selling Red Queen book, following Mare, a member of the lower class Reds, who finds she has a power, that only the upper class silvers are claimed to have. I have been waiting for this to be released before I'm allowing myself to pick up Glass Sword. I have to say out of all of the Red Queen, this one by far has my least favourite cover.

King's Cage by Victoria Aveyard is expected to be published on February 7th by HarperTeen.

By Your Side by Kasie West

I read my first Kasie West book, almost two years ago now, and did enjoy the writing, even if I thought the ending was cut off. But it was still a short and sweet contemporary read, which I am hoping this one will be too.

By Your Side by Kasie West is expected to be published on January 31st by HarperTeen.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber

The first thing that attracted me to Caraval, was definitely the cover, because how stunning is this? It's honestly amazing, and I would purchase this for the cover alone, even if the book ends up being crap.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber is expected to be published on January 31st by Flatiron books.

The Winds of Winter by George R.R Martin

And of cause a book that is featured on many anticipated releases list, with no expected publication date, we have the Winds of Winter! The sixth and hopefully second to last book in the Game of Thrones series.

The Winds of Winter by George R.R Martin is expected to be published by HarperVoyager.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown

Iron Gold is the first book in the second series taking place in the Red Rising world, even though I have yet to read Red Rising, I am hoping to soon. As a lot of people have recommended Pierce Browns books to me.

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown is expected to be published on August 22nd by Del Rey.

Don't forget to check out my second part to my 2017 Anticipated Releases coming mid 2017.

Thank you for reading my lovelies, I hope you checked out my first full week of posts last week, if you didn't you can check out them all now. With my second book review of 2017 coming out on Friday, which is *drum roll*

2017 TBR

Hey my lovelies, welcome to my 2017 TBR! Here are some of the series I plan to read in 2017. This year I have decided to set my reading goal as 50, due to only just meeting my goal last year, so I have plans to read some of these books after I have reached my goal in order to ensure that I do actually meet it this year.

The first series I plan on reading this year, is The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, I have already read these books, however I'm planning on rereading, in order to finally read Lady Midnight and Lord of Shadows, when it comes out.

The second series I plan on reading this year, is Dorothy Must Die series by Danielle Paige, I received the first book for Christmas this year, and plan on getting the rest of the series, as recently there have been lots of fairy tale retelling's, but I have never heard of a Wizard of Oz one. Especially one, with such as compelling synopsis.

The third series I plan on reading this year, is the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. If you've been following my blog for along time then you will know I have been trying to read the Harry Potter series for years, it's just that something has always come up, or I've suffered a reading slump, but hopefully 2017 will finally be the year. 2017, the year I read Harry Potter.

The fourth series I plan on reading this year, is the Game of Thrones series by George R.R Martin, I have been a fan of the show for quite a few years now, and as I received the books the Christmas before last, I would like to finally read them, for when Winds of Winter eventually gets released.

Thank you for reading my lovelies, and due to it being the first week of the brand new year I have scheduled a post every day for you guys.

2017 New Years Resolutions

Hey my lovelies, welcome to my 2017 goals, which basically leads onto a post of stuff that I plan to do, but most likely won't make it past February, however its always good to make these sort of posts.

Planning

I am someone who really likes planning, the only problem with this is I am terrible at it. Like I won't do anything before I've made a list of things I need to do, however don't tend to accomplish most things on said list. So in order to be prepared I am beginning writing this post on a cold dreary morning in the middle of October, trying to think of things I want to accomplish next year. My solution to all of this is bullet journal-ling. I began bullet journal-ling i early November, and have found that it makes organising my life so much easier. Which hopefully means that I will be completing all of the goals listed below.

Blogging Goals

My first goal of 2017 is to post 52 book reviews, I will hopefully do this by scheduling and ensuring that I write a review for every book I read. With prioritizing Arcs over, my own pile of books. Meaning overall my goal is to be posting 2-3 times a week with at least one of these being a book review. And to do this I am planning to be a month in advanced for posts, which I am already failing at.

My second goal of 2017 is to read more books than bought. Sounds easy right? Probably not as easy as you originally think. As I really seem to have a compulsion to buy as many books as I can, and my bookshelf can no longer take it.

I also want to be a lot more vigilant with all of my books, meaning I am going to start tracking my book, purchasing, blogging and author stats. Hopefully, all of this will allow me to compile together, the sort of posts and books that you guys prefer hearing about. I started a reading journal last year, and kept up with it completely until around September time, so this year I plan on tracking all of this in my new Moleskine journal, which I have purchased specifically for reading purposes.

And my final bookish/blogging goal of 2017 is to start interacting more on social media, as I do have both an Instagram and twitter account dedicated purely to books, which I have been neglecting as of late.

Personal Goals

I would like to save up enough money to go on holiday with my friends this summer, as I have already had enough of the cold. And to go to V Festival again this year, however this year I believe I will camp, to get the proper experience and to take sunscreen this year.

I would like to finally Pass my driving test, as I just want to do it now and pass, without them cancelling my test, this goal will get done however, as I already have my test booked for the end of January.

As so far at college, I have not dropped a grade, I would like to continue to do this, in order to get the grades that will allow me to go to University (Even though I am still unsure about whether or not I want to go).

Thank you for reading my lovelies, and due to it being the first week of the brand new year I have scheduled a post every day for you guys. If you didn't catch my 2016: A Year in Review, you can check it out here.

Christmas Gift Guide: YA books for Book Lovers

Hey my lovelies, welcome to my Christmas Gift Guide: YA books for book lover, I have chosen some underrated books and fairly popular ones, for my list to try and give you can even spread of the type of books. These are all books that I enjoyed reading and would recommend to just about anyone, but because I know some people prefer different types of YA books, I have split this into little handy sections.

Younger YA Readers

I began reading YA books, when I was eight years old, which is quite young, considering some of the content in them. However, if you are like me and start of young or if you simply want to get into the YA genre, but with less "grown up" topics I would start off with some Meg Cabot books. Meg Cabot has wrote a large range of books, spanning a range of genres, but mainly sticking to the YA supernatural romance and I'm not talking any sparkling vampires (although there is nothing wrong with that). For a beginner, I would definitely recommend her Mediator series, Avalon High, and the Airhead series.

Contemporary

For me, this next one borderlines on YA/NA as Rainbow Rowell has wrote for both genres including Adult, but I am going to chuck her on this gift guide anyway, because why the hell not? I read Attachments over the summer (one of her adult novels) and loved it, much more than I liked Fangirl, which is one of her more talked about books. I would definitely a recommend Eleanor and Park, for a realistic contemporary read.

My second contemporary read is Rosebush by Michelle Jaffe, I last read this a few years ago on holiday, and loved it. This is mystery/thriller following a girl trying to find out who hurt and left her for dead in a Rosebush. This is definitely a underacted read, as it is barely mentioned in the YA book community, so if you want a book that your YA lover probably hasn't heard off, pick this one up.

Sci-Fi

My Sci-fi pick is one that has been very popular in the recent years and it is The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey, I really enjoyed the first book in this series, and if it was up to me, I would have finished this series there. But due to the great writing and plot I would definitely be giving this to my favourite book lover.

Apocalyptic

My apocalyptic pick is of cause, my fave, my love, Penryn and the End of Days trilogy by Susan Ee, this is an amazing series. In all honesty the sequels weren't as good as the Angelfall, but how could they live up to that amazingness? I would recommend this to anyone, and I mean anyone. If you would like to find more about this series, you can check out my book reviews here (Angelfall (book 1) | World After (book 2) | End of Days (book 3)).

Supernatural

My supernatural pick is Half Bad by Sally Green, this follows Nathan, a young witch, who has to decide whether he is a white or dark witch, due to his parentage. This is written in second person, which is quite strange for a YA novel, so shout out to all the second person YA novels out there, because I have only ever read one. At this stage I have only read the first two books and are putting off reading the final book in the series, mainly because I don't want it to end. You can check out my reviews for Half Bad and Half Wild here.

Honourable mentions include; Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver, Benedict Brothers series by Joss Stirling and Cassandra Clare.

That is it for my Christmas Gift Guide: YA books for Book Lovers my lovelies, this is the second post in my Christmas series, where I have scheduled lots of Christmas treats in the run up to Christmas. Thank you for reading and if you haven't already checked out the first in my new "Emma Recommends... series" with me recommeding my winter reads.

BookTube-A-Thon Reading Challenge TBR

Hey my lovelies, this weeks monday post is a little different to my normal ones mainly because it is a tbr, but not any old tbr, the BookTube-A-Thon Reading Challenge TBR. The reading challenge takes place every year in one week, in order to help readers take a few books of their tbr, this year it is taking place from July 18th to to July 24th. You can find out more about the challenge here. Now I have chosen 7 books to read this week (a lot I know), in order to reach the each of the seven challenges.

Challenge #1 is to read a book with yellow on the cover, this one seems pretty easy until I actually look at my bookshelves, I do not actually own a lot of yellow books, but I still managed to find one. The book I have chosen is Landline by Rainbow Rowell, I tried to read this last year, however something stopped me when I was about half way through and then I never picked it back up again.

Challenge #2 is to read a book only after sunset and when I say after sunset this basically just means you can't read the book during the day, which sounds reasonable enough especially for me considering I do not usually go to sleep until around half past one, however sunset is not actually till 9:31pm, so I do not have much time to ensure I read it, however I have done it multiple times before, so this one should be pretty easy to do.

Challenge #3 is to read a book you discovered through booktube, I have been watching various booktubers for over two years now, so there are not that many books I have read that have not come recommended via booktube in some way. So the book I have chosen is Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs, I originally heard of this from the booktuber Jessethereader, and have wanted to pick it up since then. And now I do actually have a copy of it, why not?

Challenge #4 is to read a book by one of your favourite authors, this challenge sounds a lot easier than it is, as I have far too many favourite authors, so for this one on the day I am just going to go for it and pick up a book of one of favourite authors shelves (I have individual shelves for Cassandra Clare, Richelle Mead, Sara Shepard, Suzanne Collins and Meg Cabot, because I love their writing so much)

Challenge #5 is to read a book that is older than you, I recently watched the Pride and Prejudice movie for the first time and really enjoyed, so I have chosen this as the book that is older than me. And it is always good to read a classic, which I have yet to do so far this year.

Challenge #6 is to Read and watch a book-to-movie adaptation, I have decided that this is the challenge I am saving till last, mainly because of the book I have chosen and that is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, I read the Philosophers Stone earlier this year and enjoyed it and have just been putting off the rest of the series until now.

Challenge #7 is to Read 7 books, hopefully I will be able to read all of the above, and then one random choice of my bookshelf.

That's it for this weeks Monday post of books that I plan to read in the Book-Tube-A-Thon Reading Challenge. You can check out my last Monday post of Books that lived up to the hype here.
Thank you for reading, To keep more up to date with what I am reading, you can check out my Twitter, Goodreads and Instagram.

Books that lived up to the hype!

Hey my lovelies, this weeks Monday post are books that were either recommended to me or I heard about how amazing they supposedly were, and this post showcases books that did live up to the hype.

The first book I believe lived up to the hype is The Fifth Wave by Rick Yancey, I recently read this series and really enjoyed it, however I did not enjoy the rest of the series as much as the first, however I found the first one truly amazing, even if there was a bit of insta-love in there. The Fifth Wave follows Cassie, as she deals with an alien invasion.

If you haven't heard of the next one, where have you been for the last five years? The Hunger Games seemed to launch the YA Dystopian genre into mainstream media, as this allowed books such as The Fifth Wave and the Maze Runner to hit center stage. And this book has had some massive hype, however I have to admit the book hits every mark for me and I absolutely love it, which is why it is one of my all time favourite series and why I feel there is no need for me to give it a brief description.

Another famous book that also lived up to the hype was Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, when I read this book last year I loved it and completely fell in love with the characters. The Percy Jackson series follows young Percy as he realises that his father is the Greek god Poseidon and the battles he faces as a demigod himself with the help of his friends Annabeth and Grover.

The next book on my list is The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson, I first read this book last year and have since reread it in preparation of the final book coming out in August. The Remnant Chronicles follows princess Lia, after she runs away from a arranged marriage to a foreign prince, however everything is not what it seems. But when is it?  I absolutely loved this series and for me this book had just the right amount of everything, from love triangles to the magic element. I also posted an in depth review of both The Kiss of Deception and The Heart of Betrayal.

And the final book on my list, which of cause lived up to the hype and a book that I absolutely adore is Angelfall by Susan Ee, this trilogy was truly amazing and I would recommend them to anyone. Penryn and the End of Days follows Penryn in the apocalyptic world after the world gets invaded by angels, who have decided to reclaim the world for themselves. The reviews for Angelfall, World After and End of Days can be found here.

That's it for this weeks Monday post of books that I believe lived up to the hype. You can check out last weeks Mondays post of my most anticipated summer releases here.
Thank you for reading, To keep more up to date with what I am reading, you can check out my Twitter, Goodreads and Instagram.
