Book Review: Captivate by Carrie Jones

Hey my lovelies, welcome to part two of tonight's reviews. This review is Captivate by Carrie Jones, if you have not read the review of Need I suggest you read that first. Captivate is a good book, it takes a bit longer to get into it than I would like. Overall though I enjoyed it. I would give it a 3.99 stars.

Title: Captivate
Author: Carrie Jones
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Pub. Date: January 5th 2010
Date Read: February 10th 2015
Pages: 273
Rating:3.99/5 stars
Goodreads Summary: He smiles. It's a wicked smile. Kind but not kind. Handsome but dangerous. Feral almost. I can see why Nick nearly killed him, Nick...
I ask again, "Why were you in the road?"
"I was waiting for you."

Zara and her friends thought they'd solved the pixie problem. And they did - sort of. The pixie's are all locked away, deep in the woods. But the king's needs grow stronger each day that he is in captivity, while his control over his people weakens. And it's enough to draw a new king into town. Astley claims he is different. He claims there are pixies who can live peacefully with humans, that it doesn't have to be all violence and nastiness all the time. Zara wants to believe him...until Astley also claims that she is fated to be his queen.

There is no way Zara would ever turn pixie. And she's got good friends who will make sure of that. Besides, she and Nick are so in love they're practically inseparable. But when they very thing Zara wants to protect most is exactly what's at risk, she is forced to make choices she never imagined.

**** Be warned this review contains spoilers for both Need and Captivate, if you haven't read Need I suggest you check out my review for it here ****

Captivate starts, where Need left off and basically talks about Nick and Zara's relationship for the first half. Fairly close to the beginning Zara saves a pixie, which guess what? Is some sort of pixie king. Shocking right? Anyway the pixie king pursues her and then we add another to the mix. Zara's father warns her that if she doesn't let him and the rest of the pixies out (that the group trapped in Need), one of the new pixie kings will release them and kill them to claim the area and they will start kidnapping people all over again. Zara of cause ignored him and can you guess what happened? A pixie king came and released the pixies.

Then there is a plot twist, Nick is killed by some pixies who have just escaped from the house and is taken by a valkyrie who wants him to be in some supernatural army. Zara doesn't want this and decides she will do anything to get Nick back. True love and all that **** right? So she makes a deal with Astley a 'good' pixie king, who personally I think is hiding something up his sleeve, because he's a pixie king and we know that there is no good ones. And Zara becomes a pixie queen. So either Nick is gonna be incredibly angry when he finds out that his girlfriend decided to become the one thing that they are fighting against to 'save' him or their is going to be a change in main relationship.

One of the things I am happy about though is that certain side characters finally got together.
The reason that the book didn't get a higher stars rating was due to the fact that Zara seemed very out of character through most of the book. But maybe that was just me? Have you read this? What did you think?
